A conversation with a store clerk led a Missouri Lottery player to discover he’d won $3 million on a Mega Millions ticket he purchased for the Aug. 28 drawing.

“The clerk told me they had a big win,” the winner shared. “He told me it was too big for them to cash and to check my numbers.”

To his surprise, the ticket he purchased at Signal Food Store, 513 N. Pine St. in Mountain View, was that winning ticket.  The ticket matched all five white-ball numbers for a base prize of $1 million. Thanks to Mega Millions’ built-in multiplier feature, his prize was then instantly increased by the multiplier number printed on his ticket – in this case, 3X – for a total of $3 million.

“I was in shock,” he explained. “It didn’t really set in until I went to the Lottery office.”

The winning numbers for the Aug. 28 drawing were 8, 17, 29, 42 and 55 with a Megaball of 2.  

Mega Millions is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Tuesdays and Fridays. The estimated jackpot for Tuesday night’s drawing is $227 million.

During FY25 players in Howell County won more than $7.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $645,000 in commissions and bonuses, and more than $459,000 in Lottery proceeds went to educational programs in the county.
