'Word of Mouth' Leads to $1 Million Scratchers Win

A Missouri Lottery player in Overland who won $1 million on a “Millionaire Riches” Scratchers ticket said she heard of the game through word of mouth.

“What made me choose this ticket is a friend of mine was talking about how a friend of theirs won,” she explained. “So, I kept saying, ‘One of these days I’m going to play one of those $50 Scratchers. So, one day I decided – I’m just going to go on and do it!”

She then purchased a “Millionaire Riches” ticket at QuikTrip, 9404 Page Ave., in Overland.

“I matched one number, and it was a “diamond” symbol,” she shared. “I thought it was just $1,000. Then I went on scratching, and the zeros kept coming!”

The diamond symbol meant she’d automatically won the associated $1 million prize.

“I couldn’t do nothing but sit in my car and hold my head. I still don’t believe it today!” she laughed.

Since the game began in early February, players have already won more than $17.3 million in prizes statewide. To date, more than $237.2 million in prizes have yet to be claimed on the $50 ticket – including 34 second-tier prizes of $50,000 and 14 additional top prizes of $1 million.

In FY25, St. Louis County players won more than $195.9 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $18.8 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $47.9 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
